Skulls and their symbolism have a long history. The use of skulls in art and decoration appeared as early as the times of the Aztecs. Skulls were not only used as religious symbols but also as a decoration: molded on pots, traced on scrolls, carved on monoliths of lava and used in hieroglyphics. It is thought that skulls are a symbol of death or danger but in many cultures it has always been a symbol of wisdom and guidance.
